Early scan of fetal systems

Most of your fetal systems and small organs are formed during the first weeks of pregnancy.  

Anatomical ultrasound examination is performed to check the integrity of all internal systems and their function, through which you can see the condition inside.  This is called a system overview.

  Early examination is recommended between the 14th and 17th week of pregnancy.

  The test scans the fetal organs to rule out possible abnormalities in early pregnancy.

  The location of the placenta, the amount of amniotic fluid, and some organs are also examined.

  What is an early fetal system scan for?

  If there is a serious defect and the couple decides to terminate the pregnancy, the procedure is easier than after the pregnancy – both technically and emotionally.

  There are also organs that are not yet fully formed at this stage of pregnancy (e.g. the brain), so it is important to emphasize that timely review is necessary .

In most cases, the sex of the fetus can be determined by early scanning.

Advanced late system scan

  Late systematic review is usually done at 20–23 weeks of gestation (but not earlier than 19 weeks or 25 weeks).  

The test is important for women who have been examined before because there are systems that develop only after 15 weeks of pregnancy and there are defects that develop slowly and appear only after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

  The doctor will indicate the result of the measurement and the average week of pregnancy that corresponds to the result (weeks and days), as well as the norm area during gestational age at which the test was performed, in numbers or graphically.  …

  There are essential options for testing the late system that all physicians must meet, but more is always possible.

  For example, according to the parameters of the Israeli Ultrasound Society, the existence of a hand must be confirmed, but the fingers cannot be counted.

  If there are background conditions that increase the risk of developing certain malformations in the fetus, or if an ultrasound examination of the fetus raises a question about a specific organ (e.g., a suspected heart defect), a targeted examination is performed.
